Press Release

AbSec NSW would like to acknowledge the recent funding to our Learning and Development Centre (LDC), made possible by funding from the NSW Government Aboriginal Affairs portfolio.

The Closing the Gap NSW Implementation Plan has committed to increasing the capability of ACCOs through funding and business opportunities. The Closing the Gap Strengthening Community Capability Grants program aims to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and the NSW Government working together to overcome inequality and achieve life outcomes equal to all Australians.

Funding of $200,000 has been provided by the NSW Government to support the growth of our educational department, the AbSec Learning and Development Centre.

The funding granted through this project will support AbSec LDC trainers and assessors to build the capacity of its online learning platform and delivery.

Through this funding, AbSec will be able to expand the unique courses offered by the LDC.

This will enable greater access across broader NSW and will attract interest from regional councils and organisations.

Quotes from John Leha, CEO of AbSec (NSW Child, Family and Community Peak Aboriginal Corporation):

“We welcome this funding, and hope that the NSW Government will continue their efforts in assisting an Aboriginal-led approach to Closing the Gap.

“As the first of its kind in New South Wales, the LDC offers Aboriginal developed, designed and delivered courses designed to help those providing or managing the care of Aboriginal children.

“AbSec will continue to advocate for more early intervention and preventative approaches we know work for our communities, keeping Aboriginal children connected to community and culture whilst educating those who deliver their care.”
