Our Governance

The AbSec governance structure reflects our commitment to inclusive and culturally-informed leadership.

AbSec – NSW Child, Family and Community Peak Aboriginal Corporation (“AbSec”) is an other incorporated entity governed under the guidance of a dedicated Aboriginal governing board and led by an Aboriginal Chief Executive Officer. Our governance structure reflects our commitment to inclusive and culturally-informed leadership, featuring both representatives from Aboriginal organisations and Aboriginal individuals. This ensures that our leadership is diverse and responsive to the needs of the communities we serve.

As a registered charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission and a tax-deductible gift recipient, AbSec adheres to the highest standards of governance and accountability, ensuring our operations are transparent and effective.

Meet our Board of Directors

Our Board of Directors plays a crucial role in setting AbSec’s strategic direction, overseeing our key objectives, and ensuring the sound governance of our organisation. Comprised of representatives from Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organisations, many of whom are CEOs, each Board member brings extensive experience from the Aboriginal child and family sector. They dedicate their time and expertise to support our staff and improve outcomes for Aboriginal children and families in NSW.

The Board meets bi-monthly, maintaining regular engagement to provide oversight and strategic guidance. During each financial year, many face-to-face meetings were held, reflecting our commitment to active governance.

Our commitment to strong governance

At AbSec, we believe that sound and robust governance is essential to achieving our mission. Our organisational systems, processes, and governance practices are designed to be transparent and effective. We hold ourselves to the highest standards, ensuring that our values, beliefs, behaviours, and reputation remain above reproach. We are dedicated to equipping and mobilising our people to deliver meaningful outcomes for Aboriginal children, families, and communities.
