AbSec is heading to Kempsey and we’re inviting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members, Elders, ACCOs and Aboriginal workers to join us for our next Community Roadshow & CODA Gathering.
This is a free, mob-only, culturally safe event bringing community together for a day of connection, conversation, shared learning and, most importantly, an opportunity to have your voice heard.

Come and yarn with AbSec
Our Community Roadshows are about bringing AbSec to community – creating a space where we can share what we have been working on, listen to what is happening locally and hear directly from mob about the issues, priorities and opportunities that matter to Aboriginal children, young people, families and communities.
Members of our Strong Families Our Way, Community Engagement, Policy and Advocacy, and Learning and Development Centre teams will be joining us to share information about AbSec’s work, programs, resources and support across the Aboriginal child and family sector.
You’ll also have an opportunity to learn more about some of our latest initiatives, including:
Know Your Rights
A resource supporting Aboriginal children, young people and families to better understand their rights, know what they can expect when interacting with the child protection system and find information and support when they need it.
Leaving Care Hub – Life After the System
A dedicated resource for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people preparing to transition from out-of-home care into independent living, bringing together practical information about housing, money, support, rights, life skills and more.
Have your say through our CODA Community Gathering
The day will also include an interactive Community Organisations Disaster Adaptation (CODA) Project Workshop.
We want to hear directly from mob about your experiences of disasters and emergencies – before, during and after an event.
What worked well?
What didn’t?
Where were the gaps?
What would have made things easier for you, your family or your community?
And what needs to change to make disaster preparedness, response and recovery stronger and more culturally responsive for Aboriginal communities?
Community knowledge and lived experience are essential to this work. What you share with us will help inform our ongoing CODA project and contribute to strengthening the way Aboriginal communities are supported through future disasters.

We want to hear your experiences, your ideas and what you believe needs to happen next.
It’s also an opportunity to connect with other mob, build relationships, learn more about available resources and supports, ask questions and contribute to conversations that can help influence better outcomes for Aboriginal children, young people, families and communities.
