ACCO Comprehensive Support Package

AbSec walks alongside Aboriginal organisations to build strong, independent ACCOs across NSW.

Walking alongside our deadly ACCOs

AbSec is committed to walking alongside Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) across NSW, supporting both established organisations and those just beginning their journey. We know that strong, independent ACCOs are essential to creating sustainable, community-led systems that put Aboriginal children, families, and communities first.

Whether you’re an existing ACCO looking to expand capacity or an emerging organisation building your foundations, AbSec provides tailored guidance, tools, and advocacy to help you grow with confidence. When you’re looking for support for ACCOs in NSW, AbSec is here to ensure no organisation walks the path alone.

Turning community knowledge into actionable insights

To make this project truly community-led, we need your input and expertise during the consultation phase. We are developing two key reports, where your insights will  reflect the real needs and aspirations of ACCOs and communities across NSW.

We will organise local yarn ups, focused on sharing your stories, insights, and priorities to help shape both reports. Your voice can drive and influence the design of tools and support systems that will benefit ACCOs and communities for years to come.

State of Sector Report

An overview of the current ACCO landscape across NSW. It will help us understand what services exist, where gaps remain, and what strengths are already present, particularly across five key sectors of health, housing, disability, justice, and early childhood.

Gap Analysis Report

Building on State of Sector findings, this report will identify what’s needed to move ACCOs towards a stronger, well-resourced future. It will highlight barriers, priorities, and opportunities for strategic growth.

Support for ACCOs, state-wide

Aboriginal children and families thrive when their care, support, and futures are led by strong Aboriginal organisations. By investing in support for ACCOs NSW, we are helping to build a system that is self-determined, culturally responsive, and future-focused. This work is not only about strengthening individual organisations but also about creating a network of ACCOs that can stand together, share resources, and collectively drive systemic change.

When ACCOs are empowered to lead, outcomes improve—children remain connected to culture, families have access to trusted supports, and communities can shape the services that reflect their values and aspirations. AbSec is proud to champion this vision and ensure ACCOs have the tools they need to succeed.

Capacity building and guidance

We work side-by-side with ACCOs to strengthen governance, leadership, and organisational systems. Our support ensures your organisation is sustainable, culturally strong, and positioned to deliver lasting impact for community.

Sector partnerships

AbSec builds bridges between ACCOs, government, and sector partners to create opportunities for collaboration. By fostering these connections, we help Aboriginal-led organisations amplify their voice and influence in decision-making spaces.

Practical resources and training

We provide access to workshops, resources, and tailored training that meet the unique needs of Aboriginal organisations. From governance and compliance to culturally responsive practice, our learning and development opportunities are designed to support your growth.

Walking together, not ahead

Our approach is grounded in respect, collaboration, and community. We don’t dictate solutions—we walk with you, recognising the knowledge and strengths already within your organisation.

The Comprehensive ACCO Support Package

The ACCO Support Package is a culturally informed initiative designed to strengthen and empower ACCOs to deliver better outcomes for Aboriginal children, families, and communities by addressing three core areas of organisational growth:

This project is not a one-size-fits-all approach. The package will be co-designed and pilot tested with three ACCOs to ensure it reflects real-world conditions and is adaptable to different organisational contexts.
