Important information: Protecting our communities from Coronavirus (COVID-19)
Wednesday 18 March 2020
AbSec would like to acknowledge the significant impact Coronavirus (COVID-19) is having on communities and individuals across the world. Our thoughts go out to those who have been directly impacted by this crisis.
We are closely monitoring advice provided by the NSW and Federal Governments. To comply with current health alerts for public gatherings and visits to vulnerable groups, which includes remote Aboriginal communities, we are implementing special measures until further notice.
Some upcoming events have been cancelled, including:
- The Round Table Meeting on Wednesday 25 March
- The AbSec Aboriginal Agency Members Forum on Wednesday 15 April
- The Cultural Connections Workshops in April and May
- The AbSec All Members Forum on 6 May.
We hope to reschedule some of these events for later in the year, subject to advice from authorities.
AbSec offices remain open, but we have offered our staff the opportunity to work from home. Staff are still contactable via phone and email. We have also requested staff minimise their travel. These circumstances may change at short notice given the evolving nature of the crisis.
Please follow the advice and instructions from the Aboriginal health service in your area. You can also call the Coronavirus Health Information Line on 1800 020 080, which is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
We strongly encourage you to follow the advice from NSW Health in relation to COVID-19. The Australian Government Department of Health also issues a daily alert on the latest medical advice and official reports.
Further advice about infection control and infographics that can be given to families can be found at https://www.healthdirect.gov.au/coronavirus-covid-19-in-pictures
NCOSS have also recently issued a COVID-19 Community Sector Resource which contains useful information to help plan for business continuity.
Let us all stay healthy during these difficult times and work together to protect our Elders!
