SUMMARY:Narooma Community Disaster Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Strong mob\, strong peak | Narooma CODA Community Gathering \nAbSec will be holding our community engagement workshop in Narooma on Friday\, 27th March 2026 \nThis is an opportunity to bring together community members\, ACCOs\, Local Aboriginal Land Councils and Aboriginal service providers for a morning of connection\, conversation and shared learning. \nYour voices and stories are the basis for our work\, and that’s why we are coming to your community – to listen and learn. \nThis event is an opportunity to engage with community as part of the Community Organisations Disaster Adaptation (CODA) Project\, which is exploring how we can strengthen disaster preparedness\, response and recovery across our communities. \nThe South coast region has experienced significant disasters in recent years\, and we know that community knowledge\, leadership and lived experience are essential in shaping stronger systems for the future. \nWe want to hear from community about what worked\, what didn’t\, and what needs to change to better support Aboriginal communities before\, during and after disasters. \nThe CODA Project is funded through the Disaster Ready Fund and is being delivered across several regions of NSW. \nAboriginal Community Controlled Organisations and Local Aboriginal Land Councils play a critical role in supporting communities during disasters\, yet their voices are not always embedded in disaster planning systems. This project aims to ensure Aboriginal voices and lived experiences help shape future disaster planning and policy reform. \nWhether you are part of an organisation or a community member\, your voice and experience matter. \nJoin us for a yarn\, share your insights\, and help shape stronger outcomes for our communities.

SUMMARY:Strong mob\, strong peak | AbSec Bateman's Bay Roadshow & CODA Community Gathering
DESCRIPTION:Strong mob\, strong peak | AbSec Bateman’s Bay Roadshow & CODA Community Gathering\nAbSec will be visiting Lismore as part of our Community Roadshow\, bringing together community members\, ACCOs\, Local Aboriginal Land Councils and Aboriginal service providers for a morning of connection\, conversation and shared learning. \nThis roadshow is an opportunity to: \n\nProvide updates on advocacy priorities and sector work influenced by community feedback\nStrengthen relationships and accountability with local communities\nContinue yarning about what children\, families and communities need now and into the future.\n\n\nYour voices and stories are the basis for our work\, and that’s why we are coming to your community – to keep listen and learn. \nThis event will also provide an opportunity to engage with community as part of the Community Organisations Disaster Adaptation (CODA) Project\, which is exploring how we can strengthen disaster preparedness\, response and recovery across our communities. \nThe Northern Rivers has experienced significant disasters in recent years\, and we know that community knowledge\, leadership and lived experience are essential in shaping stronger systems for the future. We want to hear from community about what worked\, what didn’t\, and what needs to change to better support Aboriginal communities before\, during and after disasters. \nThe CODA Projectis funded through the Disaster Ready Fund and is being delivered across several regions of NSW. Join us for a yarn\, share your insights\, and help shape stronger outcomes for our communities. \nAgenda\n9:30am: Acknowledgment of Country\, Introduction of AbSec and staff members in attendance \n1st session – Know your rights \n10:15am: Morning tea \n10:30am: 2nd session – CODA Workshop \n12:00pm: 3rd session – LDC \n12:30pm: 4th session – State of the Sector \n1:00pm: Lunch and networking \n\nTeam in attendance from AbSec\nCarlee Maccoll – Project Officer \nShiny Varghese – Policy and Advocacy \nTanya Miles – Carers Support \nBailey Barlow – Strong Families Our Way \nDianne Potter – AbSec Learning and Development Centre\n \nDane Callaghan – Trainer / Assessor – Child\, Youth and Family Intervention- LDC
