SAFESpace program launched to protect kids with disability
Friday 3 November 2017: A new program was launched this week by the Office of the Children’s Guardian and Family and Community Services, aiming to protect the safety and wellbeing of children and young people living with disability. SAFESpace will support service providers and organisations to provide a safe environment, while also helping parents and carers to be aware of what constitutes a child-safe organisation and equipping them to identify a service that’s right for their children.

Tuesday 31 October 2017: We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Maari Ma Youth Health Service on their recognition as Outstanding Service or Project Working with Aboriginal Young People at the fifth annual NSW Youth Work Awards. AbSec was a proud sponsor of the awards held by Youth Action, which attracted a large audience of 300 guests celebrating the commitment of youth workers and volunteers.

Monday 30 October 2017: AbSec’s latest annual report has been endorsed by the board and released to the public, showcasing our work in support of Aboriginal children, families and communities during the 2016/2017 financial year.
More progress needed to justify Australia’s position on Human Rights Council
Tuesday 17 October 2017: As Australia begins its term on the United Nations’ Human Rights Council, AbSec is calling on both Commonwealth and state governments to set a better example for human rights at home.
AbSec encourages submissions to the Family Is Culture review
Friday 13 October 2017: As the peak body for Aboriginal children and families in NSW, AbSec is strongly encouraging community members to share their views and experiences of out-of-home care as part of a current review.
Titled ‘Family Is Culture: Independent Review of Aboriginal Children and Young People in Out of Home Care’, the review is examining the reasons for the disproportionate and increasing number of Aboriginal children and young people in out-of-home care in NSW. Public submissions close on 30 November and will be delivered to the NSW Government.
